A useful SG-SST system in mining starts from the real hazards of the work: explosives, ventilation, ground support, rock falls, explosive atmospheres and silica dust. Because mineral extraction is classified as risk class V, a small mine must meet the same 60 minimum standards as a large company. We design the system to that requirement, support its implementation at the mine and train staff in the hazards of their jobs.
When an accident occurs we carry out the root cause analysis and the causal tree, and review the protocols that should have prevented it. With that information we build the indicators the company reports to its occupational risk insurer (ARL) and to the Mining Authority. Accident statistics show in which shifts or tasks the events concentrate, and that is where the corrective actions of the work plan are prioritized.
